Andeka Gorroxtategi, since his first appereances on stage, has been praised as the “perfect tenor” thanks to his spinto repertoire and his rich and luminous voice, which has taken him to some of the world leading opera houses and festivals in a few years.
Highlights of his career include Don Josè in Carmen (Teatro San Carlo Naples under the baton of Zubin Mehta, Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, NCPA Beijing, Opera Australia Sydney), Cavaradossi in Tosca (Opera di Roma, Semperoper Dresden), the title role of Otello (Theater Kiel), Carlo in I masnadieri (Teatro La Fenice with Daniele Rustioni, Opera di Roma), Gabriele Adorno in Simon Boccanegra (Opéra de Lausanne), Calaf in Turandot (Opera Australia Sydney), Dick Johnson in La fanciulla del West (Ópera de Bellas Artes Mexico City), Rodolfo in La bohème (Teatro Real de Madrid with Nicola Luisotti, Staatsoper Hamburg), Pinkerton in Madama Buttefly (Sydney, Teatro La Fenice di Venezia with Omar Meir Wellber), Pollione in Norma (NCPA Beijing with Renato Palumbo), Fernando in Goyescas (Teatro Real de Madrid, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Teatro Regio di Torino), Italian tenor in Der Rosenkavalier (Salzburg Festival with Franz Welser-Möst).
He has great interest in the Zarzuela repertoire, being a regular guest at Teatro de la Zarzuela in Madrid, where he sung in Curro Vargas (Curro in a new production staged by Graham Vick), La Villana (Don Fabrique), Maria del Pilar, La Grand Duchess de Gerolstein (Fritz), El Caserío (Josè Miguel), El Gato Montés (Rafael, performed also at Teatro de La Maestranza in Sevilla and Palau de Les Arts in Valencia).
Born in Abadiño (Bilbao), he began his vocal training at the Conservatory of Durango and later moved to Bilbao, Madrid, Marseille, Paris, Rome and the USA to further his training with Agurtzane Mentxaka, Ana Begoña Hernandez, Francisco Ortiz, Elisabetta Fiorillo and Francisco Casanova. At the beginning of his career he was supported by the Alfredo Kraus Musical Association (AMAK). He has also stood out in several international singing competitions, such as the “Jaume Aragall” and the “Manuel Ausensi”.
