Italian soprano born in Ethiopia, Mariam Battistelli graduated with honors from the Conservatory of Music “Lucio Campiani” in Mantua, then she was a member of the Centre de Perfeccionament “Plácido Domingo” at Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia in Valencia.

She is Euridice in the movie The Opera! – Arie per un’eclissi, directed by Davide Livermore and starring also Vincent Cassel and Fanny Ardant, presented at Festa del Cinema in Rome in 2024 and released worldwide in 2025. In this movie she sings excerpts of Orfeo ed Euridice, La traviata, Madama Butterfly, among others.

Winner of the First Prize and the Audience Prize at the 16th International Competition “Ottavio Ziino” in Rome, in 2018 she joined Vienna State Opera Ensemble, where she remained till Summer 2020 and where she had the opportunity many roles: Musetta in La bohéme, Gretel in Humperdinck’s Hänsel und Gretel and Pamina in Die Zauberflöte, and she could also work with outstanding conductors as Christian Thielemann, Adam Fischer and Speranza Scapucci. In Wien she has been part of many other produtions, including Alma Deutscher’s Cinderella (title role), L’elisir d’amore and Le Nozze di Figaro.

In recent years the role of Musetta in La bohéme allowed her to make her debut on many prestigious stages such as Teatro alla Scala di Milano, Staatsoper Hamburg, Teatro La Fenice di Venezia, Opéra de Monte-Carlo, Opéra de Toulon, Tokyo Bunka Kaikan, Royal Opera House of Muscat.

Other highlights of her career are Adina in L’elisir d’amore at Staatsoper Hamburg and with Gyndebourne Touring Opera, Scarlatti’s Griselda and Arianna a Nasso at Festival della Valle d’Itria in Martina Franca, Norina in Don Pasquale in Glyndebourne, Musiques en fêtes at Choregie d’Orange in 2023 and 2024.

Her concert repertoire include Mozart’s Requiem (sung with London Philarmonic Orchestra under the baton of Adam Fischer), Mahler’s Symphony No. 4, Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater.
