Born in Reggio Calabria, Maria Teresa Leva graduated with honours from the ‘Francesco Cilea’ Conservatory in her hometown.
In 2014, she won the ‘Ottavio Ziino’ International Singing Competition in Rome and the same year she caught the attention of critics and audience by debuting, in less than two months, the roles of Mimì in La bohème and Micaela in Carmen at Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa. The same year, she took part as Donna Elvira in the new production of Don Giovanni staged by Graham Vick for the theatres of Opera Lombardia.
Naturally endowed with a timbre precious and of rare beauty, combined with a solid technique and an extraordinary interpretative versatility, she has enjoyed since her debut an acclaimed career that has taken her to some of the most prestigious stages in Italy and abroad, with demanding roles such as Aida, which after her debut at Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari she has also interpreted at Verdi Festival in Parma, Arena in Verona, Macerata Opera Festival, Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa, May Festival in Wiesbaden.
