The young and talented mezzo-sporano Aoxue Zhu won the ’emerging voice’ prize in the 2023 edition of the prestigious AsLiCo International Competition in Como, and subsequently debuted the role of Duchess Federica in Luisa Miller, in the Opera Lombardia production also staged at the Teatro Grande in Brescia, Teatro Ponchielli in Cremona, and Teatro Fraschini in Pavia..
Born in China, she began the study of singing at a very young age, graduating in Lyrical Singing from the Tianjin Conservatory. In 2018, she moved to Italy to specialise at the Conservatory of Bologna under the guidance of Sonia Corsini. In 2021, she attended courses at the Accademia Verdiana of Teatro Regio Parma and studied with Sonia Ganassi. She is currently studying with Luciana D’Intino.
In 2022, she was admitted to the Opera School of Teatro Comunale di Bologna, where she made her debut as Tisbe in the production for children of La Cenerentola in 2022. In 2023 she returned to the main stage of the Comunale to perform Suzuki in Madama Butterfly under the baton of Daniel Oren.
She performed in several concerts as solo mezzo-soprano, including the ‘Verdi Off’ festival (a parallel event to the Verdi Festival at the Teatro Regio di Parma), the ‘Festa dell’Opera’ at the Teatro Grande di Brescia, the ‘Como Città della Musica’ Festival at the Teatro Sociale di Como and at the Teatro Comunale di Bologna.
LATEST PERFORMANCES: Werther (Charlotte) at Teatro Comunale di Bologna; Choral fantasy by Beethoven with Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano; a young nun in The fiery angel at Teatro Petruzzelli in bari; the role of Balena/Madre in Acquaprofonda at Teatro Malibran a Venezia, then on tour in several Italian venues: Bolzano, Trento, Pordenone, Brescia, Teatro Alighieri di Ravenna and Teatro Regio di Parma; the role of Third Lady in Die Zauberflöte in the theatres of Opera Lombardia: Como, Cremona, Brescia and Pavia; the role of the priestess in Aida in Como, at Arena of Teatro Sociale.
